Campaign Name

In 2010, the people of Mesho came together and halted logging of their forests by setting up a road blockade that stopped access for at least a yearThey had tried to negotiate with the loggers earlier but it went nowhere. The dramatic action drew interest from Chinese environmentalists, including a writer from ChinaDialogue.net and Greenpeace China, who both reported on the story. Their reports uncovered that there was actually a ban on logging in the area where it was taking place. The blockade wasn’t stopped by authorities, perhaps because of the allies the villagers had built.
